Gnarbone is a faerie and a former servant of Madoc.

Appearance[]

Gnarbone is enormous, with long ears and a tail that drags on the floor. His servant’s livery is pulled tight across his chest, tufts of fur sticking out from the gaps. He has large clawed hands.

Biography[]

The Cruel Prince[]

In Madoc's Stronghold, Gnarbone tells Jude that a prince is asking for her downstairs. Jude mistakenly assumes the prince is Cardan, and rushes off.

Later, Gnarbone comes to Jude’s room and informs her that Dain is waiting for her in Madoc’s parlor. He tells Jude that he has been commanded to fetch her immediately and not to mind whatever state of dishabille she was in. Despite the order, when Jude pulls on pants and boots before going, Gnarbone doesn’t stop her.

The Wicked King[]

The day after Jude is attacked in the woods by the riders, Gnarbone enters her room with a breakfast tray. Jude hides her wound but considers asking him to send for a surgeon to treat it, but she dismisses the idea.

Upon Jude’s return from the Undersea, she is brought to the Stronghold, where Gnarbone lifts her out of the carriage easily, as though she is made of twigs and leaves.
