Vivienne is half-faerie and half-human. She is the daughter of Madoc and Eva Duarte, stepdaughter to Justin Duarte and Oriana, half-sister to Taryn and Jude Duarte, foster sister to Oak and the girlfriend of Heather.
Physical Description
Vivi has golden slit-pupil eyes like a cat. Her ears are slightly pointed and furred. Although she is older, both her sisters are said to be fuller and taller than her due to their human heritage.
Personality
After Madoc murdered her mother and step-father, Vivienne became committed to hatred, vowing to never forgive him. Now, she continues to make life hard for him: never compromising or doing what she’s told.
Vivienne is described as a ferocious child. She often misbehaves in order to provoke Madoc. She used to break things, scream, rage, and pinch Jude and Taryn if they were content. She is roguish and rebellious and often snuck out of Faerie without Madoc’s permission to see her girlfriend, Heather. She takes part in everyday human activities and seems to dislike most of the Fey. Vivi enjoys being out in the human world. If it was just up to Vivi, she would’ve left Faerie a long time ago. The only things keeping her there are Jude and Taryn. Vivi cares a lot for her younger sisters and will not just leave them on their own, that is because of her caring and protective nature towards them that comes from her deeper understanding of faerie and its dangers.
She is often selfish, but Jude says she is so cheerful about being selfish and so encouraging of cheerful selfishness in others, it is easy to have fun with her.
Biography
Early Life
At the beginning of The Cruel Prince, Vivienne is described as a ferocious child. She often misbehaves in order to annoy her father, Madoc. She and her half-sisters, Jude and Taryn, were raised in the human realm. Neighborhood kids would avoid Vivi and their parents talked about her in low, worried voices, due to her strange behavior and inhuman manners.
When Vivienne was nine years old, her mother and step-father were murdered by Madoc, her biological father, who took her and her half-sisters to Faerie. She vowed to always hate Madoc.
Since Vivienne's father had a high-up position in Elfhame and was very close to the High King, Vivienne spent a lot of her youth with the Princes and Princesses of the Court. However, she regarded Rhyia as her only true friend in the Faerie Realm.
Vivienne had stopped attending classes because she became bored, and to annoy her father. She despises Faerie and often visits the human world.
Jude enlists the help of Vivienne to help return Sophie, a girl that Jude saved from Hollow Hall, safely to the human realm. However, by this point, Sophie finds it hard to cope with what's happened to her, and how she has been a mindless slave in the Faerie realm for years.
A flying stead takes Sophie home to the human realm with Jude and Vivienne. However, everything has become a bit too much for Sophie to handle. And when they are over the sea, she closes her eyes, tilts to one side, lets go of the stead’s mane and lets herself fall. Vivienne attempts to grab her but is too late. Sophie plunges soundlessly through the night sky, towards the sea. Jude says when Sophie hits the water there was barely even a splash.
Jude and Vivienne searched for Sophie‘s body for hours but couldn’t find it. Sophie’s body is most likely lying somewhere at the bottom of the sea. The memory of what Sophie did haunts Jude and Vivienne, and the event constantly plays through their minds as a result.

Vivi is not rarely mentioned. First when Rhyia gives Cardan a book of hers, and then lastly at the end when Cardan and Jude are in the mortal world. She is seen eating dumplings with Heather.
Relationships
Romances
Heather is Vivienne’s human girlfriend. Heather is either in denial that Vivi isn’t human or she’s just waiting for Vivi to come out and tell her. Jude says that there was no way you could look at Vivienne's ears and think they were made from anything but nature. Despite all that, they both deeply care for one another and she has already gotten to know Heather’s family. Vivi plans on moving to live in the mortal world with Heather soon. After Taryn's wedding, however, when Vivi releases her glamour, Heather moves out.
Following the events of The Queen of Nothing, Vivi and Heather make a deal at Heather's request. She asks Vivi to glamour her so she will forget faerie in order for them to successfully be together. At the end of The Queen of Nothing, Heather sends Vivi on a quest. Vivi has to erase Heather‘s memories from Faerie and herself and meet Heather all over again, as well as telling her the truth from the beginning. If Vivienne manages to make Heather fall in love with her again, Heather will regain her lost memories.
Friends and Allies
Grima Mog met Vivi when she went to give back Jude her dagger. Then came with Vivi on her way to save Jude. She and Vivi were the only two who knew Jude was the High Queen.
Vivi was friends with many of the gentry children when she was young and used to play with Cardan. At some point, they went swimming together and Vivi learned he had a tail.

This causes Vivi to feel resentment towards Jude and Taryn. She still loves them and tries to help them by giving advice.When they first came to Madoc's Stronghold, they would huddle and talk about what they remembered from the human realm. But that stopped because all their new memories were of the faerie realm and Vivi has only a passing interest in those.
Vivi brought Jude and Taryn to the human realm to meet her girlfriend, Heather. She tells them that she wants the three of them to leave Elfhame and move in with Heather.
Vivi notices the changes in Jude as she becomes more ambitious and ruthless. She tells Jude that she keeps smiling a pleasant smile in front of Madoc, but all she can see anymore is bared teeth.
Vivi is willing to help Jude return Sophie, the mortal girl she stole from Hollow Hall who was being mistreated, to the human realm. When Sophie is unable to accept the reality of what's happened to her and commits suicide, Vivi helps Jude look for her for hours. Afterwards, Vivi tells Jude that can tell she is not doing well. Vivi tells Jude she is braver than she is.
When Taryn plans to get engaged to Locke, Vivi tells Jude that she should leave thee faerie realm and come to the human realm with her and that they can live like the solitary fey do. Vivi tells Jude that she knows that Jude is stick in Faerie because of her. She says that she knows she s the worst thing that has happened to her in her life. She feels responsible for what Jude has had to turn herself into. She confesses she wonders if Jude would know how to be human still. Vivi acknowledges that whatever she had to do to fit in cost her something vital.
Jude tells Vivi her plans for choosing the next High King and Vivi helps her.

Vivienne is shown to care for Oak, often playing or tickling him. Oriana is shown to believe that she is a bad influence on Oak since she teaches him many "bad things." Oriana never acts on this belief, however. When it is no longer safe for Oak to remain in Faerie, Vivi takes him with her to the mortal world where he lives in an apartment with her and her girlfriend.
Vivienne and Madoc have a poor relationship because she has never forgiven Madoc for killing her mother and stepfather. She is angry at Madoc for stealing her and her half-sisters away from the mortal realm and taking them to the faerie realm. Because of this Vivienne is cold towards her father and spends a lot of her time in the mortal world. When he killed her mother and stepfather, she vows to hate him forever. Vivi would like to punish Madoc, but her only power is to be a thorn in his side. Because she is Madoc's legitimate daughter, she feels no pressure to please him and does what she likes, knowing that he will not hurt her. If Madoc approves of something, Vivi immediately despises it.
In The Queen of Nothing, Vivi and Taryn come to rescue Jude from a deadly duel she had with Madoc, in which she was heavily injured. Vivi shoots bolts at Madoc and during their intense exchange she declares that she had yearned to kill him for a long time, Madoc replies in the same manner. It becomes clear that she always had a secret intention to avenge her parents' death, moreover, Madoc never viewed Vivi in the same way he viewed and loved the twins.
Vivienne and Oriana's relationship is somewhat stretched, with Vivienne tormenting Oriana through Oak, as a way to show her hatred against Madoc.
